Col. Julie Balten, commander, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District and her team discusse the deepening Port Hueneme, California, with local, state and federal officials from aboard a tugboat during a tour of the harbor. Balton spoke at a ribbon cutting ceremony cmmemorating the completion of the projectJune 28, 2021, at the port. Commercial vessels using Port Hueneme import cars, produce and other goods while exporting local produce, American cars and other domestic cargos. It’s also home to a construction battalion of the U.S. Navy’s famed Seabees; about 175,000 Seabees were staged directly through Port Hueneme during World War 2. By deepening the the port, larger ships can now use it.
