I prototype model of scram-jet engine, made of experimental alloy is used as a test vehicle in The University of Virginia's Supersonic Combustion Facility. During combustion testing, flow speeds of 2,200 mph are generated with flow temperatures approaching 4000° F for long periods of time, to truly test the capabilities of the engine in long term sustained flight.
