Memorial to Brig. Gen. Hugh Mercer at Princeton Battlefield State Park at Princeton, N.J., June 16, 2021. Mercer, who was wounded during the Battle of Princeton, died nine days later in the Thomas Clarke House, which is also located at the Park. During the Battle, Continental Army and militia soldiers led by Gen. George Washington surprised and defeated British Regulars Jan. 3, 1777. The battle capped "The Ten Crucial Days" which began with the crossing of the Delaware River Dec. 25-26, 1776, and the two battles in Trenton.
