Sailors from deck department heave on a phone and distance line aboard amphibious dock landing ship USS Tortuga (LSD 46) during a fueling at sea with replenishment oiler USNS Walter S. Diehl (T-AO 193). A phone and distance line is a dual function line used to provide communications (bridge to bridge) and also shows distance between two ships in 20-foot increments. Tortuga, commanded by Cmdr. John Barnett, is part of the only forward-deployed amphibious ready group and is currently operating in the 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility.
