Matthew Thomas, commanding officer of amphibious transport dock ship USS Portland (LPD 27), receives his command at sea pin from Command Master Chief Ruben Diaz during a change of command ceremony, Aug. 6. Thomas relieved Capt. Karrey Sanders as commanding officer of Portland during the shipboard ceremony. Portland is underway conducting routine operations in U.S. 3rd Fleet.
