Brian Schrum, commanding officer of USS New Orleans (LPD 18) observes JS Makinami (DD 112) from the starboard bridge wing as the ship steams in formation with USS America (LHA 6), HMAS Canberra (L 02), and USNS Matthew Perry (T-AKE 9) during an exercise. New Orleans, part of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, along with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
