U.S. Marine Corps Battalion Landing Team 3/5, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) conduct the Fire Support Coordination Exercise in the Marianas Island chain, Aug. 14-15, 2021. Lance Cpl. Claudia Murphy, assisted the exercise as the forward observer finding any mortar round directive discrepancies within the impact zone. Murphy then plots the date on the M16 plotting board and calls over the radio with the newly corrected data. Murphy is the first female mortarman in 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, who is now one of the numerous women who have enlisted and joined the infantry community, actively redefining the accustomed Marine in the infantry ranks.
