U.S. Army Maj. Gen. John Evans, U.S. Army North incoming commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Phil K. Barretto, senior enlisted leader of U.S. Army North, receive a briefing from U.S. Air Force Col. Michael Jones, Task Force Liberty J4 commander, inside of a temporary housing facility at Liberty Village on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, Sept. 3, 2021. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
