Chief Warrant Officer 4 William K. Wilkins was a sergeant when he helped to lower a flag atop the Pentagon following the Sept. 11, 2001 attack. He was among the first wave of responders to the incident. The flag, which was hung adjacent to the crash site of a terrorist commandeered Boeing 757, has become an iconic symbol of resilience and resolve. Wilkins is currently assigned to the Logistics and Material Readiness Directorate, U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command, Fort Lee. (photo by T. Anthon Bell)
