U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers with the South Carolina National Guard depart for Louisiana with a CH-47 Chinook helicopter from the South Carolina National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility (location 2) in Greenville, South Carolina, Sept. 8, 2021, to support the Louisiana National Guard in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. The Chinook and its crew will add medium-heavy, air lift capability to the ongoing recovery operations, bringing the total number of Soldiers from South Carolina to approximately 195. South Carolina’s efforts include Soldiers from engineer, military police, transportation, and aviation units. The types of missions the South Carolina National Guard is expected to conduct include debris clearance and removal, ground and air transportation of supplies, security support, and other logistical support.
