Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark Milley, visited service members from Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina, Sept. 8th, 2021. The Joint Chiefs of Staff is the body of the most senior uniformed leaders within the United States Department of Defense that advises the president of the United States, the Secretary of Defense, the Homeland Security Council and the National Security Council on military matters. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff came to Joint Base Charleston to appreciate the service members who were involved in the evacuation of personnel in Afghanistan.
