“We have overwhelming support from our local community,” said Kelly J. Kohunsky, SFRG leader and spouse of Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher R. Kohunsky, 2ABCT senior enlisted advisor. “We always see soldiers with all their gear on, but it’s nice to see them working with our governmental and non-governmental partners in humanitarian efforts, doing amazing work.”
The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
