U.S. Marine Corps Col. Timothy S. Brady, center, commanding officer, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, presents Maj. John Shin, operations officer, 3rd Radio Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, with a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal during the Big Ideas Challenge award ceremony at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. Sept. 14, 2021. Shin submitted an idea for space-based solar power in support of Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations. The second annual award ceremony was hosted by the III Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) command element from Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan. The Hawaii based awardees attended the ceremony via video teleconference at Camp Smith. Lt. Gen. H. Stacy Clardy, commanding general, III MEF, recognized the efforts of all 94 participants for their creative and bold ideas and solutions addressing challenges faced by III MEF and the Marine Corps.
