Maj. Gen. Troy Galloway, Deputy Commanding General, First U.S. Army, visited Idaho on Sept. 15 and 16, 2021 to see firsthand what the Idaho National Guard’s Orchard Combat Training Center has to offer. The OCTC is a 143,000-acre premier joint combined arms training site, located 18 miles south of Boise, with ample world class ranges to prepare brigade combat teams for combat in a tough and realistic training environment. During his visit, Galloway met with Idaho citizen-Soldiers from the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team - 116th CBCT who are preparing for a yearlong deployment. He also met citizens-Soldiers from Montana National Guard's Charlie Company 1-163 CAB, Nevada National Guard's 221st Armored Cavalry and Oregon National Guard’s 116th CAB. All three states are currently training at the Idaho National Guard's OCTC. Additionally, Galloway toured the Regional Training Institute schoolhouse on Gowen Field in Boise, and learned about future training capabilities for the RTI schoolhouse and for the premier OCTC training grounds.
