Spc. Alexander Winn, a medic assigned to Task Force McCoy, conducts a head count of Afghan evacuees in the dining facility, Sept. 24, 2021 at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, as part of Operation Allies Welcome. Soldiers from various military occupational specialties also contribute to the important mission of feeding and caring for Afghan evacuee families here. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
