210917-N-LP924-1064 STRAIT OF HORMUZ (Sept. 17, 2021) Amphibious transport dock USS Portland (LPD 27), amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), and dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Wally Schirra (T-AKE 8) conduct a strait transit alongside guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112), through the Strait of Hormuz, Sept. 17. Murphy is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
