U.S. Congressman Ben Cline, Virginia’s 6th district representative, is briefed on the travel process for Afghan individuals during Operation Allies Welcome (OAW) on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Oct. 4, 2021. Representative Cline visited Task Force Pickett to receive an overview of the mission, resettlement process, as well as tour the facilities. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
