INDIAN OCEAN (September 10, 2021) — Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handler) Airman Jacore Guilford holds a chock and chain that he removed from a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter, assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 165 (Reinforced), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), to prepare the aircraft to take off from the flight deck of amphibious transport dock ship USS Portland (LPD 27), Sept. 10. Portland, part of the USS Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), along with the 11th MEU, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
