Nellis Natural Resources Program and Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands wildlife specialists survey for signs of Mojave desert tortoise activity at Nellis AFB, NV, Sep. 13, 2021. Every spring and fall, the NNRP surveys Nellis AFB and the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) for signs of Mojave desert tortoises. The search consists of systematically hiking through desert tortoise habitat and recording desert tortoises, their burrows, scat and other tortoise signs.
