Staff Sgt. Taylor Cyr, 379th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron Fly Away Security Team member, surveys the airfield security environment from the back of a C-17 Globemaster III during an evacuation mission at Hamid Karzai International Airport, Afghanistan. The FAST is a unique group of 21 Airmen who provide discreet, low-visibility security that ensures protection for U.S. Air Force aircraft transiting in airfields where security is unknown or deemed inadequate to counter local threats. During the Afghanistan evacuation operations, the FAST conducted 130 missions, each lasting an average of 21 hours, and is credited with evacuating 30,000 out of approximately 57,000 people that Al Udeid AB supported.
