The Objective Dual-Task Turning Measures for Return-to-Duty Assessment is a four year study being conducted at the Medical Centers of Excellence in Joint Base San Antonio October 9, 2021. A demonstration was hosted for Maj. Gen. Michael Place, the commanding general of 18th Medical Command, was to demonstrate the state-of-the-art, wearable sensor based system that helps to develop testing that could better determine recovery and readiness for a return to duty after mTBI. The US Army Medical Research Acquisition funded project involves three academic sites and three military sites: Oregon Health and Science University, University of Utah, Courage Kenny Research Center and Fort Sam Houston. These sites are developing several high-level military simulated tests, using ratio chatter, grid coordinates, a simulated urban combat patrol, and a civilian ambulatory task. Analysis will determine if there are similar outcomes between the military tasks and instrumented clinical tasks such as the Illinois Agility Test, Functional Gait Assessment, High-level Mobility Assessment Test, and a walking/turning course. Once developed and refined, the Warrior Recovery Clinic at Fort Carson and Madigan Army Medical Center will assess objective measures of turning on service members being treated in rehabilitation after mTBI.
