A memorial housing fragments of the Berlin Wall is displayed outside of the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center on Ramstein Air Base, Germany, Oct. 1, 2021. The memorial was moved from the Officers Club and stood up in its new location in time for German Unity Day, which is celebrated annually October 3. German Unity Day commemorates the day that all the German states became part of the same country again after the German Democratic Republic voted to abolish itself and join the democratic Federal Republic of Germany along with the other German states Oct. 3, 1990.
