U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. William Jurney, the commanding general of II Marine Expeditionary Force, is briefed on the operations of a mayor cell on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Oct. 16, 2021. Jurney visited Task Force Pickett in order to receive an overview of the mission, resettlement process, and tour the facilities. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
