Operation Allies Welcome - Operation Allies Refuge

U.S. Army Soldiers and Afghan personnel play while waiting to greet newly arriving Afghan personnel at the living support area as part of Operations Allies Welcome, Fort Lee, Virginia, Oct. 16, 2021. After flying from Germany to Virginia, Afghan evacuees were bused to Fort Lee where they will begin the immigration process. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Army photo by Capt. Joseph Bisso, 50th Public Affairs Detachment)
