U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Miguel Sanchez-Sanchez Jr., a radio operator assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, plays the guitar for Afghan children in a multi-purpose tent during Operation Allies Welcome on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Oct. 14, 2021. Sanchez began playing the guitar for Afghan children in order to entertain and share his passion with them when his unit took over responsibilities of Picket Village on Sept. 19. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Eric Ramirez)
