(Oct. 7, 2021) Ray Chauncey Smith Jr., former Navy SEAL wounded in action in Vietnam on June 12th, 1970, receives his purple heart from Captain Brad Geary, commanding officer of Naval Special Warfare Center (NSWCEN) Basic Training Command during a ceremony on Naval Amphibious Base Coronado Oct. 7. NSWCEN provides initial assessment and selection and subsequent advanced training to the Sailors who make up the Navy’s SEAL and Special Boat Teams.
