211018-N-CD272-1002 IWAKUNI, Japan (Oct. 18, 2021) Lance Cpl. Danny Grijalva, assigned to the 9th Engineer Support Battalion (ESB), operates an excavator for the landfill project at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. The U.S. Navy Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5 and Marines from 9th ESB are capping a landfill to minimize aerial strike hazards. NMCB-5 is deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations, supporting a free and open Indo-Pacific, strengthening their network of allies and partners, and providing general engineering and civil support to joint operational forces.
