Marcel Demangen, a 96-year-old French resistance veteran poses near where he linked up with American Soldiers from the 45th Infantry Division in 1944.
Marcel was a member of the French Resistance that linked up with a company of the 180th Infantry Regiment at this spot on October 6, 1944. The company along with several resistance fighters were encircled by a Nazi regiment and captured. Marcel escaped capture as the youngest member of the party, and only one other French Resistance fighter survived the Nazi internment camps to return home at war's end. Also pictured is Mrs. Sarah Prunier, an American citizen living in France who served as a translator for the visit. (Photo provided by Lt. Col. Shane Riley, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team)
