A liaison officer (LNO) Soldier assigned to Task Force Eagle, meets with one of their assigned Afghan guests at the living support area as part of Operations Allies Welcome, Fort Lee, Virginia, Oct. 26, 2021. The LNO conducts accountability, health and welfare, arrival and departure coordination, and needs of the Afghan families. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
