U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Francis Donovan, the commanding general for 2d Marine Division, presents a piece of cake to retired Maj. James Capers Jr. during a cake cutting ceremony in celebration of the 246th Marine Corps birthday on Camp Lejeune, N.C., Nov. 8, 2021. The annual ceremony is a long-standing tradition where the oldest Marine in attendance hands the first piece of cake to the youngest Marine, a custom that represents passing on the legacy of the Corps.
