Pfc. John D. Magrath enlisted on March 4, 1943, and joined the Army’s newly formed division of mountain troopers – the 10th Mountain Division. Magrath served as a radio operator during combat operations in Italy and was killed by enemy artillery on April 14, 1945. That day proved to be the costliest for the 10th Mountain Division with 553 casualties, including 114 dead. (Courtesy Photo)
