CAMP SAPPORO, Japan – Maj. Gen. JB Vowell, U.S. Army Japan’s commanding general, visited here for the first time and was welcomed by Lt. Gen. Yoshihiko Okimura, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Northern Army’s commanding general, Nov. 15. During the visit, Vowell was honored with an arrival ceremony following several briefings by senior JGSDF Northern Army staff on the regional army's unique capabilities and recent exercises. Before departing, Vowell and Okimura exchanged gifts and discussed ways to improve future bilateral exercises like Yama Sakura and strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance.
