Sailors assigned to the amphibious dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47) wait to embark the Rushmore as it arrives pierside at Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo (CFAS), Japan Nov. 17, 2021 becoming the newest addition to the forward-deployed naval forces (FDNF). The Rushmore relieves another Whidbey Island-class ship, USS Germantown (LSD 42), which departed Sasebo Sept. 15, 2021 after more than a decade of FDNF service.
