On November 16, 2021, Marine Corps Recruit Depot and Eastern Recruiting Region Commanding General, Gen. Julie L. Nethercot, alongside Marine Corps Recruit Depot and Eastern Recruiting Region Sergeant Major, Sgt. Maj. Edwin A. Mota, presented coins and words of gratitude to the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Anvil out of Charleston, S.C.
The 13-person crew, led by Senior Chief Anthony Liuzzi, worked from Nov. 8 through Nov. 15 replacing signs within Parris Island’s waterways. These signs were used to alert fisherman and local boaters of the restricted areas aboard the depot. This is the first time the coast guard has worked alongside personnel aboard the depot on such a project, and helped rejuvenate deteriorating area markings that were upwards of twenty to thirty years old.
