GULF OF TADJOURA (November 12, 2021) Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class Jean Romero, right, a U.S. Navy Reserve Sailor and native of Puerto Rico, assigned to Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron 10 (MSRON-10) deployed to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, pilots a patrol boat while being observed by Capt. Maggie Dean, the incoming commanding officer of MSRON-10 and the first female commanding officer of a MSRON unit, Nov. 12, 2021. Camp Lemonnier (CLDJ) serves as an expeditionary base for U.S. military forces providing, support to ships, aircraft, and personnel that ensure security throughout Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia. CLDJ enables maritime and combat operations in the Horn of Africa, while fostering positive U.S. – Africa relations. The base is also home to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, with an area of responsibility including Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, and Yemen.
