Afghan evacuees are able to purchase supplies, snacks and other basic items at the newest post exchange to open at Fort McCoy, Wis., on Oct. 1, 2021, that serves them as part of Operation Allies Welcome. Fort McCoy's Directorate of Public Works and the Fort McCoy Exchange worked with Task Fort McCoy to open the facility, which is normally managed by the Directorate of Public Works. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Army Reserve photo by Zach Mott/88th Readiness Division Public Affairs)
