Lieutenant Gen. John R. Evans, Jr., the commander of U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), visited Task Force McCoy to learn about the progress of the Operation Allies Welcome mission here and to meet with the Soldiers on the ground, Nov. 22, 2021. During the visit Evans was presented an operational overview, toured some of the facilities being used by Afghan evacuees as well as visiting Task Force McCoy Soldier living and recreation areas before eating dinner and talking with Soldiers. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
