Senior Airman Jenna Canada, 51st Security Forces Squadron military working dog handler, plays with Akim, her MWD, at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, Nov. 17, 2021. A MWD handler is responsible for protecting and defending a base in a team effort with their K9. Prior to becoming a handler, members must spend a minimum of 18 months in service as a Security Forces specialist. Canada spent approximately three years at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, performing Security Forces duties before starting the program to become a handler.
