    163d Attack Wing

Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey B. Shaw assumed command of the the 163d Operations Group, today, 4 December 2021. He comes to the role very humbled and excited. He extends the greatest gratitude to Col. Chikasawa, CMSgt Witt, Col. Bramante, and fellow group command teams for being here today. It took a dedicated crew to make the change of command ceremony possible: Capt Cuyan, SMSgt Jasso, MSgt Pawlak, MSgt Ballecer and the Public Affairs team. Lt. Col. Shaw acknowledges the MXG for hosting the ceremony and doing a phenomenal job showcasing our MQ-9s.
“Col. Chikasawa, I appreciate your trust and confidence in me to take this command,” says Lt. Col. Shaw. “It’s a pleasure working with you and I’m looking forward to commanding under your leadership at the next level.”
He says Col. Bramante and Col. Teal were guides and mentors to Lt. Col. Shaw over the years, as well as the CMSgts of the wing. He says their impact to our members and the unit is immeasurable.
“On a personal note, I want to give a special thanks to CMSgt Witt, CMSgt Williams, and CMSgt Amador for making a large positive impact on me and our members over the years. I am truly grateful. Thank you.” Lt. Col. Shaw comments.
The squadron command teams of the operations group have welcomed him and he is truly appreciative for the overwhelming support in his new role. “I look forward to working with you as we share this experience together,” Lt. Col. Shaw emphasizes.
Lt. Col. Shaw also reflects on the contributions and sacrifices of the 163d Grizzly family. “Regardless of your rank, time in grade, AFSC, or military status I want you to know that you make a difference in our unit, the state of California, and this great nation. Thank you for your service.” He also adds a special shout out to members in the 160 ATKS, 196 ATKS and the 163 OSS. “We’ll be always ready and always there to answer the call.”
In attendance of the change of command were Lt. Col. Shaw’s parents. His mom and dad have been amazing parents to him, he says he is so blessed. “Thank you, mom and dad, for all your love and support over the years. Thank you, mom, for raising me to always do the right thing. She would always say, ‘Mijo!, you do what you think is right.’ Thank you, dad, for being the best example a son could ever have. Your example has made me work hard every day to be a better husband, father, and officer.”
Lt. Col. Shaw is a father to two daughters, Jaynee and Jolee. To them he says, “Thank you for making me a better person and making this Grinch’s heart grow 3 sizes. Jaynee, I’m adoring your love for dance and music. Jolee, I’m thrilled to watch you excel in sports and playing games. I want you both to know that with hard work and dedication anything is possible.”
With a pause and a loving look toward his wife, Jessica, of 15 years, he says, “You are an amazing woman, incredible wife and wonderful mother. Raising two women with you has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Your independent nature and true understanding of what it means to be a military spouse has allowed me to stay focused on the Grizzly family for the last 13 years so we can accomplish our mission. This achievement is not possible without you and your support. Thank you.”
One message he ensures he gets across to the Grizzlys is, “Thanking their spouses and support systems because without their support their ability to serve would very difficult, if not impossible.”
With that, he thanked everyone there today, especially his Mom, Dad, Jessica, Jaynee and Jolee for allowing me to serve. Thank you, and I love you.”
