Staff Sgt. Matthew Archer, 445th Civil Engineer Squadron, climbs through the window of a training structure during the week-long DoD firefighter rescue and survival course at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Indiana. The strenuous, hands-on course featured 10-hour days and pushed students to their limits, both physically and mentally. Each training objective and technique taught was based on historic events where a firefighter was seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.
