U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. William Johnson, 33rd Rescue Squadron special missions aviator, extends the fast rope insertion/extraction system of an HH-60G Pave Hawk during daytime water rescue operations over the Pacific Ocean, Dec. 1, 2021. The FRIES is used for a technique called fast-roping, where rescue personnel can quickly descend a thick rope, usually utilized in situations where the helicopter is unable to land.
