Museum Director John Pentangelo of the Hampton Roads Naval Museum provides some insights to some of the artifacts in the museums’ gallery during a guided tour for board members of the American Society of Naval Engineers-Tidewater Section. The tour coincided with a donation of funds to the museum and the Hampton Roads Naval Historical Foundation to support their upcoming Virtual LEGO Brick by Brick Shipbuilding event. Also pictured is a sampan that is on display in the museum’s exhibit “The Ten Thousand-Day War at Sea: The U.S. Navy in Vietnam, 1950-1975.” In 1968, U.S. Navy Riverine Forces captured a 25-foot long sampan during Operation FLANKSPEED as it transported weapons, among other contraband, that was used to wage war.
