Kaleb Bemis, an archivist assigned to the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, holds a map of Credit Island and Pelican Island, while Sgt. 1st Class Joel O’Malley, ASC Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, points to where American gun boats were docked on Pelican Island on the morning of Sept. 5, 1814. The ASC Soldiers learned about the battle that took place there between American and British forces during a staff ride conducted on Credit Island, Iowa, Nov. 23.
