A gas chromatograph mass spectrometer is utilized to detect volatile organic compounds in water samples at the Bioenvironmental Flight laboratory at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Dec. 10, 2021. The equipment is highly sensitive to VOCs and measures by parts per trillion, that allows bioenvironmental personnel to indicate if the water is contaminated. If VOC is detected, the flight will coordinate rigorous testing with the Navy. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Alan Ricker)
