Staff Sgt. Scarlett Yates, Task Force Liberty isolation residence building noncommissioned officer in charge, works to maintain the comfort and safety of all who are in quarantine after arriving during Operation Allies Welcome at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, Sept. 13, 2021. With no prior medical experience, she helped make the isolation dorm operational in less than two weeks, helped deliver a baby while at a hospital with a family from her building on Labor Day, and is also working to complete a dual master’s degree at Harvard University. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
