U.S. Army paratroopers assigned to 54th Brigade Engineer Battalion (Airborne) conduct a short halt while on patrol alongside Italian paratroopers from the “Folgore” Parachutist Brigade. This training is part of Exercise Mangusta at the Siena Military Airfield in Ampugnano, Italy on Nov. 17, 2021.
Exercise Mangusta is the largest Italian Army training that the 173rd Airborne Brigade participates in annually. This brigade level allied training exercise between the “Folgore” Parachutist Brigade and Italian-based elements of the 173rd takes place in the region of Tuscany, Italy. This training plays a key role in the relationship, interoperability, and mission readiness of both forces.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build partnerships and strengthen the alliance.
