Montana's dual-status commander, Brig. Gen. Donald Emerson, travelled to Providence St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula to meet with members of the Medical Response Team #1 and the Montana National Guard's COVID-19 response force Dec. 2, 2021.
Emerson became the first dual-status commander after Montana stood up three active duty medical response teams to assist local health care facilities in Missoula, Billings and Great Falls, and over 100 Montana Guardsmen were activated due to the strains placed on the state's health care system by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Emerson was briefed by both military and civilian health care administrators and received a tour of the facility, where he was able to recognize several of the team for their contributions to the mission.
