A U.S. Marine fires at a target during a series of drills in preparation for the Marine Corps Marksmanship Competition Far East on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 13, 2021. Throughout the two-week competition, Marines first practiced marksmanship fundamentals followed by a scored course of fire as a team and as individuals. The Marines who score in the top 10 percent will receive a gold, silver, or bronze medal then move on to the Marine Corps Marksmanship Championship followed by, if they win, the opportunity to shoot on the Marine Corps Shooting Team. The Marine Corps Marksmanship Competition Far East is held annually to improve Marines’ marksmanship, combat readiness and weapon proficiency. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Karis Mattingly)
