December 15th marked a milestone for the 163d Attack Wing when they exercised their ability to stay relevant and demostrate their Agile Combat Employment skills when they retrieved a Ground Control Station or GCS from Beale Air Force Base in Northern California. The 146th Airlift Wing provided their unique capability to move the massive GCS from Beale AFB back to March Air Reserve Base, in the belly of one of their own titans, a C-130J Super Hercules. This adventure began six months prior when the 163d ATKW trucked the GCS and supporting equipment up to Beale AFB to assist CALFIRE and the fire support mission. Maintenance servicemembers from the 163d ATKW align the wheels of the GCS for preparation of loading the huge box in to the Hercules.
