    31st Marine Expeditionary Unit

U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Nicholas Cresci, an aircraft rescue and firefighting specialist with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265 (Rein.), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), wields a power saw capable of cutting through metal for a Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP) exercise during MEU exercise (MEUEX) on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 12, 2021. TRAP capabilities allow the 31st MEU to conduct overland rescue and recovery of downed aircraft personnel, equipment, and to provide advanced trauma life support, regardless of the environment. MEUEX is a pre-deployment training exercise that validates and reinforces the MEU’s mission capabilities across all of the Marine subordinate elements. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
